Up Ripping the Perch

How many places serve Perch for their Friday night fish fry? The fillets of these voracious eaters are excellent eating. Firm white meat with a taste that is not fishy at all. But finding a school of the decent sized ones on a lake the size of Winnebago can be challenging to say the least. Just after ice-out the Perch move into shallow bays with feeder creeks that are bringing in warmer water. They will run up the feeders and deposit their eggs along brush and weeds in the water. I'm not sure if this is totally true or not, but I have heard that they actually spawn at night. Now this goes against their feeding habits because they feed during daylight hours. At night they rest on the bottom due to the fact that they do not see well in low light conditions. So you need not get up before the crack of dawn to go Perching. Though hard to locate once you find an active school you can be in for some intense action. You will probably want to use just one pole because of the fast action.
