Fishing line tends to be another one of those items where it is personal preference rather than anything else. Again it depends how you are fishing and what you are fishing for. I like Fireline for panfishing, I use the 1 pound diameter 4 pound test. I like Fireline because you can feel everything that happens to the line. When the perch are just nibbling you can feel it. When your trying to stay on rocky bottom, you can feel it. Coupled with a micro rod, I can feel every bite and feel if I am still on the bottom type I want to fish. Another line I am experimenting with is the fluorocarbon lines. Although the brand that I purchased seems a little stiff and it keeps a coil from being spooled on an ultra light reel, I believe that the stuff works. While ice fishing this past winter I watched a number of perch and blue-gill run into the line above the jig. They could not see the line. This didn't happen on any of my other rods, even the 1 pound mono. So as soon as they come out with this stuff that doesn't have a memory I will spool up with it also. Until then I will use it as a tippet on my Fireline. |
